Another SCANDAL

Did Bishop really need Brother Aagard to help w/ a service project at the exact time of Biggest Loser this morning....or....is he trying to sabotage the competition??

It is even more suspicious b/c Bishop's team dominated at the calorie counting challenge today. HMMmmmmm

You decide!

(Really though, we missed the Aagplants, the Tator Tots and 1/2 of the Cool Cucumber team at the get together this morning. Kudos to Turnip the Volume for knowing how to count the calories.)

Saturday Challenge/Competitions Points

Red Peppers and Cool Cucumbers both get a point for running the obstacle course w/ the fastest time. I am still losing sleep over us not all trying to beat our times. I think we could have done it! (The Tator Tots went to the temple and did FOUR sessions! They suggested they get a point....I think they deserve like a hundred....wow.....four sessions!)

These points will count as 10% of the final scores. (50% is weight loss and the other 40% is the fitness points)

SCANDAL and Disclaimer!

EXTRA EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT

Emily is feeling really badly about Saturdays challenge. She is sure she caused a huge scandal by doing crunches rather than sit ups during the challenge. She told me she has been worrying about it for days!

I think we all ran a great obstacle course though and I hope we would have all been able to push a little harder and beaten our time. However, to avoid any pulled muscles or backs going out....we might have been smart to just end it when we did.

DISCLAIMER: Emily wanted me to write this in the blog....

a-Blobing we will go, a-Blobing we will go, high ho-the-dairy-o a-Blobing we will go.

I just want to say I am surprised on how much motivation this "Biggest Looser" thing has been. When you have to write down how good (or don't write down how bad) you have been, kinda makes you think twice before you eat the double bacon cheese burger.. B Aagard

Eating Healthy

I took a weight loss and eating disorders class in college, and I learned eight tips about eating healthy:
1. Eat only when you are hungry (not whenever something sounds good).
2. Eat food you like.
3. Have no distractions (TV, etc.).
4. Sit down to eat.
5. Eat slowly.
6. Stop before you are full (just get satiated--satisfied).
7. Relax.
8. Pay attention to your food.

How to Eat the Fruits and Veggies

Okay everyone, I have figured out how to get the 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.

-First, eat a fruit with breakfast - a banana in your cereal, blueberries on oatmeal, strawberries on waffles, etc....

-Then, for lunch have a salad with whatever you're having. (Or a soup with vegetables in it).

- During the day, for a snack have some apple slices, an orange, or some carrot sticks with Ranch dressing instead of what you'd normally snack on, like chips.

-At dinner try to have one or two vegetables, like a potato and green beans, or whatever you like.

- And the "cheater" one: drink a glass of V-8 Fusion or other 100% fruit or vegetable juice to get in that last serving.

I did these things today and had MORE than 5!!!!

Go biggest loser!!!I am so proud of everyone! xoxo Cindy

A Secret Brownie Recipe!

Okay...so I am not doing great on my personal goal which was NO CHOCOLATE. Aaahhhh! I did make it one day last week without having any! And, I did get almost all of my other points...so that is good, right? I found this recipe and it sounds worth a try. Let us know when/if you try it!

Take a brownie mix...any brand will work
Puree one can of black beans until smooth (liquid and all)
Mix into dry brownie mix
Bake as directed on package.

These are fudgy, moist and delicious! To assure success and to avoid your family who does not read the blog from figuring you out and turning their noses up at beans in brownies follow these tips:
Do NOT over cook!!!! a little under done is best...these should be fudgy
Don't double the batch...an 8x8 pan is about perfect.
Really, it's just the dry mix and beans...do not add anything else!

Seriously, these are delicious and you can't tell they aren't just great fudgy brownies: So! Low fat, high fiber, chocolaty....a serving of vegetable? What's not to love? (ok, one thing not to love...the sodium content is high because of the bean's not being drained...oh well)

The Nitty Gritty Details

Okay...be patient with me as I try to get this all going! I am borrowing this from Brian's twin brother's wife's sister...did you get that connection?! They did this in her ward in Alaska and had a ball. (They all had to pay $15 to be in it and then all the money was divided into prizes as the end.) So...I am winging it the best I can w/ the help of Brian's twin brother's wife's sister who lives far far away (and whom I have never met)!

Total Weight Loss: But how do we calculate weight loss percentage? It's a pretty basic formula. First of all you'll need to remember your initial weight (IW). Secondly, you'll need your actual weight (AW) at this point. Now, the formula goes like this: ((IW-AW)/IW) * 100= total weight loss percentage

Weekly Weight Loss: Similar to above. First of all, you need to remember you previous weeks weight (PWW). You’ll need your current weight or actual weight (AW). The formula goes like this: ((PWW-AW)/PWW) * 100=weekly weight loss %
Welcome to the Odessa First Ward Biggest Loser Contest

Get ready to have a lot of fun and hopefully get healthier and lose some weight in the process! Here is a general introduction:

Each team will be given a record sheet where they will record each weeks weight loss and calculate that into a percentage. Please bring the record sheet to each weigh-in so you can record your current statistics. There will also be a community record sheet where each team will account for their team's percentages and fitness points.

Weight Loss (40%): Simply the difference between your teams beginning weight and ending weight. (put into a percentage formula)

Fitness (50%): 6 daily points x 7 days= 42 points a week per person (84 team points), 420 points possible during the 6 week challenge (there are only 5 weeks even though it is 6 weeks long). To receive these points do the following:
1. At least 7 hours sleep
2. At least 48 ounces of water (six 8oz glasses a day)
3. At least 5 servings of fruits and/or vegetables
4. At least 30 minutes of moderate excercise a day/weekday (if exercise 5 times give yourself 2 extra points) This will give you two days off during the week and you will still be able to earn all the points.
5. 15 minutes of scripture study a day

One personal goal: (talk with your teammate about this, and write it down)-make up your own, something that will challenge you
-keep a food journal
-deep breathing/meditation for stress
-take 15 minutes for yourself to relax
-no sweets/sugar-lift weights
-stretching-etc
-no eating after a certain hour
- bed by certain time....you get the idea, right?

Challenges (10%): The challenges each week will be a surprise. We hope that they will test all sorts of fitness, invoke team strategy, and simply be a blast. For each challenge won you will receive 1 point (or 1.25%).

HONESTY will play a HUGE part in the Biggest Loser. We ask that you are considerate of other players and play this game with complete integrity.
